1. Pair your iSwitch to your iPad via Bluetooth. Press any button on your iSwitch to wake it. When the iSwitch is looking for a device to pair with, the LED display box will show moving lights. On your iPad go to “Settings” then “Bluetooth”. You should see an option named iSwitch followed by a series of numbers (the unique number series is stated on the label on your bottom of your iSwitch). Click on that to begin the pairing process.
2. The iSwitch has the integral switch as well as 2 sockets in the back for plugging in additional switches. The default settings for the integral switch and each of the sockets are as follows:
- Switch — Space
- Socket 1 – Enter
- Socket 2 — Home
The default settings cover many switch accessible apps, including all HelpKidzLearn and Inclusive software (space and enter).
3. You may want to change the settings to one of the 24 other commands that work with the iSwitch. These commands are shown on the cheat sheet on the bottom of the unit, along with a letter or number code for each. For example, you may want to take a picture using the camera, which is set by sending a “volume up” command (code H) when the camera app is open.
A. First, select the switch that you would like to program by repeatedly pressing the channel button (CHAN). The LED light will illuminate next to the number of the selected socket. No LED lights are illuminated when the integral switch is selected.
B. When a switch is selected, the current setting is shown in the LED display box. When the socket that you want to change has been selected, repeatedly press the mode button until the desired command code appears on the LED display box.
4. The iPad recognizes the iSwitch as an external keyboard, so the on-screen keyboard will not automatically deploy as it usually would. To bring up the on-screen keyboard when an iSwitch is paired with an iPad, press the MODE button (there is an image of a keyboard above this button). To get out of the on-screen keyboard, press and hold the MODE button again.
5. There is a port on the back of the iSwitch to charge the unit using the cable provided. When the iSwitch battery is low, the middle light underneath the switch next to the battery icon will flash red. When charging, the LED light with illuminate green. The iSwitch can still be used while charging. When the iSwitch is fully charged, the LED light with turn off.
6. Whenever the iSwitch is idle for 30 minutes, it will automatically go into sleep mode. Press any button or switch to wake it again. If you wish to power down the iSwitch so switches can-not be accidentally activated (ideal when transporting the unit and switches can be banged around), press and hold the CHAN button until the “1” and “2” LEDs illuminate and the number 8 shows in the LED display box. To turn it on again, press either the CHAN or MODE button.
7. iOS7 and later operating systems include the switch control feature, enabling switches to be used to navigate the iPad interface. For assistance setting up Switch Control, please see the How To Set Up Switch Control On The iSwitch document.
