Quarantine Activity Ideas
As we enter month 3 of quarantine, finding ways to keep busy and entertained remains essential. Whether you’re a parent trying to homeschool or just looking for some fun activities to involve the whole family, we hope some of these ideas can help spice things up!
Musical Statues
Play a game of musical statues and let your switch user be in control! Put an APPlicator in music mode and the student can control the “play/pause switch. When the student plays the music, everybody dances; when the student pauses the music, everybody must freeze in place!

Hotter / Colder Game
Have a switch user give clues of “hotter” or “colder” in the search for an item. When the person searching gets closer to the item, the user presses their “hotter” switch. When the person searching gets further from the item, the user presses their “colder” switch.
Accessible Bowling
Play a game of accessible bowling. Set up some pins using empty bottles and position a fan to blow a ball towards the pins. Using an iClick, a student can turn the fan on using their switch or iPad to make the ball roll towards the pins and knock them over.

Accessible Soccer
Play a game of accessible soccer. Use a soccer goal (or make one out of a box) and position a fan to blow the ball into the goal! Use an iClick to turn on the fan with a switch or iPad to blow the ball into the goal!
Race Cars
Have an accessible car race. Set up a car track and create your own wind-powered cars using foam cars, toothpicks, and a sticky label. Position a fan to blow the cars down the track. This could be an individual activity for a student, or put the iClick in cooperative mode to require students to work together to turn on the fan and race their cars against each other!

Game Night
Have a family game night and use a SmoothTalker to emulate a die. When it’s the switch user’s turn, they can press their switch to “roll” (program in numbers 1-6 and use the SmoothTalker in Random Mode)
Trivia Night
Have a family trivia night. Put the questions into a ChooseIt! Maker activity to make it accessible for everyone. Make a general trivia activity or choose a theme you know your family will love.

Make a Sensory Room
Do you have any sensory items laying around your house? Could you turn regular boring items into sensory ones? Use bright lights or add colors to things you already own. A basic fan can become a sensory item with a little bit of ribbon and tape. Get creative with what you have lying around your home – the sensory possibilities are there! Make your sensory items switch and iPad accessible; use an iClick for electrical appliances, or an iControl for battery operated devices.
Throw A Bubble Party
Throw a bubble party! Use an iClick with a bubble machine to make it accessible using a switch or iPad.

Cooking and Baking
Sharpen your baking and cooking skills by trying out some new recipes. Follow a picture recipe and make it even more accessible by using an iClick to operate kitchen appliances using a switch or iPad.
Silly Instructions
Give silly instructions to other family members. Make a personalized activity including members of your family and the silly things the user can tell them to do. For example, tell Mom to tell a joke; tell Dad to pull a silly face. Then give feedback – tell them if it made you laugh or even boo them! Make your own activity from scratch or edit this one to include your own family members and actions. Sharecode: YQAFED

Have A Photoshoot
Have a switch adapted photoshoot! Use your phone or iPad with a switch interface and program your switch to the “volume up” command (command “H” if you have an APPlicator). Then simply open your camera and press the switch to take lots of photos!
Read a book
Read a book and supplement the story with props you have around the house. Reading a book about firetrucks? Add a switch adapted flashing light. Have a book with repeating works? Use a SmoothTalker to follow along and read the repeating words or lines.

Xbox
Play video games! The xbox adaptive controller makes video games more accessible for all users. Add joystick control using an Optima Joystick for users who need a little more accessibility.
